Santas Anonymous is run by students at Father Mercredi Community High School in Fort McMurray. It that gathers various food, clothing and toy items in order to prepare personalized donation packages, referred to as hampers, to be donated to the appropriate needy families in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo community during the Christmas season. Last year, over 700 Christmas Hampers were prepared and delivered. The annual budget of the project is over $100,000.
The Fort McMurray Catholic Board of Education provides public education in a faith based environment to approximately 6,000 students.
Services include the delivery of the Alberta Education Program of studies from Kindergarten to Grade 12, Early Childhood Services (ECS), English and French as Second Languages (ESL/FSL), First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) programming, counselling services, student transportation and special education services for students with mild, moderate or severe disabilities.
Out of school care is also provided in seven schools. Students and staff are also active in many social justice and charitable work in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo including Santa Anonymous and homeless support projects. Several bursaries and scholarship funds are also provided by the Board of Education. The Board operates eleven catholic schools which are also made available after school hours for youth groups and other community events.
