At the SPEC Association, we really care about women.
June Dresses is a month-long peer-to-peer fundraising campaign for women where participants pledge to wear a dress or a skirt each day in the month of June. SPEC staff and community friends and partners will be wearing dresses throughout the month of June and posting their pictures to social media with the hashtags #junedresses and #specassociation to raise awareness and funds! Funds raised through this campaign will go directly to the following three women-focused programs at the SPEC Association!
The First Steps Program offers up to three years of support and advocacy for pregnant women who are struggling with alcohol and/or substance use. First Step's goals are to help mothers build and maintain healthy, independent family lives, to assure that children are in safe and stable homes and to prevent future births of alcohol and drug exposed children.
HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) is a 30-week evidence-based program that works with immigrant families in their home to support parents, primarily mothers, in their critical role as their child’s first and most important educator.
Ladies LINKS is a monthly group that reaches out to Permanent Resident women who are in isolation, stay at home moms, unemployed and all those who are new to the community.
Thank you for supporting SPEC, you local children's charity!
Established in 1978, the SPEC Association for Children & Families, began as a fee-for-service program with Alberta Social Services and Community Health. Since SPEC’s incorporation in 1979, the programs have continued to grow and offer services for children and families under the guidance and leadership of dedicated board members, staff, and volunteers.
SPEC is focused on the positive development of kids by providing a continuum of services from early intervention (prevention) to high intervention during crisis. By providing family support services, SPEC continues to focus on a variety of preventive and educational programs that promotes a strong and resilient community that engages families and community in the well being of children and youth. SPEC provides services through the following programs - LINKS, Parent LINK Centre, Family Support and NYAN. See our website for more information. www.spec.ab.ca
